Leaving a legacy

Grade 12 is when boys become men, embracing maturity, adventure, and the legacy they will leave.

In Grade 12, boys inspire those they lead to make a lasting contribution to the Hilton College community.

Inspired to inspire

Every Grade 12 boy mentors a Grade 8 boy, helping new boys settle into their first year at Hilton. This system fosters a healthy hierarchy, allowing older boys to nurture and lead with gentleness. It develops emotional intelligence and compassion, preparing them to be excellent husbands, fathers and leaders. After matriculating, each mentor is expected to stay in touch with his mentee, ensuring they thrive and offering Grade 12s the opportunity to inspire.

Everyone has a sphere of influence

There are no prefects at Hilton College, only a Head of School, Deputy Head of School, and Heads of Houses. However, we expect every Grade 12 boy to lead in his own way and sphere of influence. In so doing, boys play to their strengths and passions, inspiring those around them. Our matrics enjoy a great deal of influence in our school and are able to motivate positive change.

Matric privileges and milestones

In Grade 12, Hilton boys earn privileges like biking to breakfast, having their own room, and walking across the lawns, with a focus on earned respect rather than entitlement.

Grade 12 milestones include the Matric Dance, leading war cries at Hilton/Michaelhouse sports matches, Leavers Dinners, the Leavers’ Chapel Service, Tie Ceremonies and the transition a lifelong membership of the Hiltonian Society.
