There is no universal Hilton College experience. Within our gates, every boy creates, shapes and carves out a distinct story.

Learning to harness natural abilities is essential for life.

Speak your truth

Here, a boy’s authenticity is expressed confidently and respectfully. Voicing your true self means staying true to your principles without condemning others. In early manhood, it’s crucial to learn discretion: How do I wisely express my ideas? How do I respectfully listen and learn from others?

Growing in self-awareness

After spending two years soaking up a richness of experience designed to coax out his uniqueness, Grade 10 is when he gains the confidence to express it. In Life Orientation, boys learn about personal branding – discovering how to express their identity and understand their social presence, an important aspect of emotional intelligence. For example, a ‘challenger’ personality has natural leadership abilities but can seem domineering if unchecked.

Expanding horizons

This year, boys can apply for a term’s international exchange at schools such as Gordonstoun in Scotland, Shawnigan Lake School in Canada, The Doon School in India, Eton College in England, and Charlotte-Latin in the US. In a foreign land, each exchange student discovers more about himself. Additionally, boys from various international schools come to Hilton, enriching our Grade 10s with diverse perspectives and stories.

Giving boys space to be

The Grade 10 Journey is a 15-day retreat; a time for boys to deepen their connections with each other and with nature. The journey includes 24 hours of solitude – a quiet, unplugged space for self-reflection and vulnerability. We also set aside time in Grade 10 for boys to consider their spirituality and commit themselves to their faith. These are important, formative times in every Hilton boy’s journey.
