MESSAGE FROM THE HEADMASTER
When one reflects on long-standing traditions it is humbling to encounter milestones which have stood the test of time. The Hilton vs Michaelhouse derby is one such milestone and this occasion is the 200th game between the schools.
To celebrate this occasion we have designed a limited edition Hilton Michaelhouse rugby jersey - I hope you have placed your order if this interests you!
We are also both delighted and privileged to welcome Mr Craig Joubert, one of South Africa’s leading rugby referees, to Hilton. Craig will honour us by blowing our 1st XV game.
Sportsmanship is the watchword for the day. Our boys are taught to play with heart, giving their all, with the ultimate goal of enjoyment. Please support your son in this spirit, respecting refereeing or umpiring decisions and congratulating both teams on superb play. The way we behave as adults who are supporting a schoolboy sporting fixture says everything about who we are as a broader community.
Please adhere to the rules and regulations about the day as detailed in the programme.
Let’s make the 200th game another great occasion to remember.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR HILTON vs MICHAELHOUSE DAY
We expect a significant number of people and as such, please ensure absolute compliance with security personnel and marshals. The booking of spectator places around Gilfillan is structured such that we can manage the large number of people, please adhere to the guidelines provided.
We ask people to respect that space is limited and request that individuals do not occupy too much space when booking a place around Gilfillan, especially as we are the hosts of this event and that other visitors will not be in a position to book areas until Saturday morning.
Booking of spaces around Gilfillan, using picnic blankets or chairs, may ONLY take place from Friday morning at 6:00. Security guards will be posted at Gilfillan to look after these blankets. Please do not rope-off areas because these will be removed by security guards.
All gazebos must be erected at least 5m behind the seating areas (top of the banks) so as not to block the view of those wishing to sit in these areas.
Our staff are extremely busy getting the campus ready therefore will not be able to assist with carrying and erecting gazebos and other equipment.
There will be a curfew in place on Friday evening as well as additional guards on duty. There will be a boom placed above the Fleur-de-Lys and the other will be just before McKenzie House. They will be operational from 18:15 and curfew will begin at 19:00. No unauthorised vehicles will be allowed passed the booms on the main drive, after 19:00 on Friday night.
GATE ENTRY FEE - CASH ONLY
Tickets at the Main Gate will be R90 per car and R40 per pedestrian. This entry fee is charged in order to help cover the extra expenses incurred on this day including security, toilet facility hire and extra staff who are required.
There are two hockey matches on Friday afternoon. The first round of Saturday matches begin at 08:00. The 1st XI hockey match will start at 11:15 and the 1st XV rugby match at 15:00.
All spectators are kindly requested to remain behind the red lines and ropes around the playing fields at all times. The public are asked not to walk onto the playing field during and between matches, and, in particular, during the performances of the school war-cries prior to the 1st XV kick off. This is a BOKSMART regulation and we ask for your cooperation in this matter.
Parking will be available on Falcon Oval and Mansergh from 07:00 on Saturday morning. Etheridge and Lombard fields from 11:15.
Tea will be served from 9:45 - 11:00 at the Beckingham Astroturf and on the school side of the Gilfillan Field from 14:10 - 14:45.
The Fleur-de-Lys Club will be open during the day and after the 1st XV Rugby game. Lunch will be served from 12:00 to 14:00 and reservations are essential. Please see attachment for more information.
The Tuckshop will be open all day.
There will be various vendors on the lawn next to the Music Block, and at the Hart-Davis cricket oval.
Open fires are a health and safety concern and as such are not allowed anywhere on campus.

The First Aid Centre manned by the Hilton College San Sisters is located at the back of the Gilfillan Pavilion.
SECURITY AND LOST PROPERTY
Please look after your possessions. In the case of loss, please report to the Red Alert security control centre. The security control centre is situated in front of the Crews Fitness Centre. Red Alert Security will handle lost property and any other security issues. Please abide by instructions given by the security staff.
Please note that if the lightning alarm is triggered, all players and parents must take cover in a building or in a vehicle.
Our Hilton College Museum will be open from 10:00 - 12:00
Please note that schools are, by law, firearm and dangerous object free zones and all visitors are, therefore, requested to ensure that they do not bring such items onto the school property otherwise we may be obliged to ask you to leave the premises.
Unfortunately the abuse of alcohol at the Hilton/Michaelhouse games has the potential to mar this special day. Such behaviour is contrary to the ethos of our schools and we ask all spectators to respect this.
For this reason, the drinking of alcohol is prohibited within the designated areas immediately around Gilfillan Field. Bottles and cans must be kept away from the area. Our security have been instructed to remove anyone who abuses alcohol, or who causes danger to players, from the Hilton College grounds.
Enjoy your day at Hilton College.
